BBQ Can Meatloaf

Items Needed

  • Universal BBQue Can
  • Your favorite meatloaf recipe (or buy prepared from your butcher or grocery store)
  • Optional: Cheese and/or cooked and peeled peppers of your choice for stuffing
  • Prep Time: 10-30 minutes (depending on whether you're cooking a stuffed meatloaf)
  • Cook Time: 1½-3 hours (depending on cooking method)
  • Skill Level: Easy
  • Makes almost 4 lbs of meatloaf

Directions

Preparation

  1. Simply stuff the BBQue Can with your favorite meatloaf. The meatloaf will shrink during the cooking process and will easily slide out when done.
  2. To create a stuffed meatloaf, use 3.5 lbs of meat and pat the meat down to about 9”x18”. Set the cheese and/or cooked and peeled peppers in center, leaving a large border of meatloaf around the edges. Roll meatloaf, sealing ends and sides, then slide it into the can.

IMPORTANT - Meatloaf will drip a lot of water/grease, so please follow these directions:

Gas Grills

  1. Set the can on the grill but NOT DIRECTLY over a lit burner in order to avoid flare-ups.
  2. Leave one burner off and turn the others to medium/high heat.
  3. Rotate the can every 20 minutes. It can take 1-1/2 to 2 hours to get the meat to 150° internally.

Charcoal Grills

  1. Move charcoal to one side of the grill and leave it there after lighting. Lay the BBQ Can on a grill on the opposite side of the charcoal so it does not drip on the charcoal.
  2. Rotate the can every 20 minutes. It can take 1-1/2 to 2 hours to get the meat to 150° internally.

Vertical Smokers (e.g. Barrel House)

  1. It is recommended to set a drip pan below the BBQue Can on the H-Frame or grate at the bottom level. Hang the BBQue Can from the top level or lay it on a grate at the middle level. Rotate it every 20 minutes if grating. It can take 1-1/2 to 2 hours to get the meat to 150° internally.

Smokers

  1. Lay the can on the grate.
  2. Rotate the can every 30 minutes. It can take 2 to 3 hours to get the meat to 150° internally.

Serving

  1. Once it is finished cooking, simply slide the meatloaf out of the can, slice it, serve and enjoy immediately!
